Construction of the the Akademik Lomonosov, a huge watercraft which will become the world’s first floating nuclear power plant, is nearing completion at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Akademik Lomonosov is designed to sail to areas on Russia’s northern coast which are difficult to reach by land but still need power. It will replace an old nuclear station called Bilibino in Russia’s remote Chukotka region.
